It’s time to welcome the breeze of summer. Every drink has its proper time and place, whether it’s a complicated concoction made with a long list of exotic components or a straightforward two-bottle affair. We’ve got you covered for those times when
the latter will have to do. Be it a house party where you want to go a little fancy with the drinks or just one of those days when you want to pamper yourself with something special, a drink is always a good idea. Along with sparkling wine, amaro, and that
liqueur bottle gathering dust in the back of your cupboard, this time we’ve brought to you an iconic cocktail from the Bartender’s favourite’ list. Pour, stir, and take a taste are the last steps. There is, of course, a time and place for more complex cocktails, but sometimes a two-bottle pickup is a way to go. This time, we’ve brought to you a two-ingredient cocktail to enjoy when you want a quick, simple and delicious drink–The New York Sour. This cocktail is not only visually stunning but also delicious due to its blend of flavours and silky texture. A typical whisky sour foundation is topped off with a red wine float to create this New York Sour recipe.
• 2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon
• 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
• 3/4 ounce simple syrup
• 1 egg white (optional)
• 1/2 ounce red wine
HOW TO PREPARE:
1.Get all the ingredients ready before you begin.
2.Start by combining 2 ounces of rye or bourbon, lemon juice and 1 ounce of simple syrup along with egg white (optional).
3.Put all these ingredients into a cocktail shaker and fill it with ice.
4.Cover the shaker and shake until well–chilled and the outside becomes frosty.
5.Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
6.The drink is then balanced with fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white, which also provides a silky texture and frothy head.
7.Now, over the back of a spoon, gently pour the fruity red wine so that the wine floats on top of the cocktail.
8.Garnish it with a lemon wheel.
Make sure to choose the right of wine as it will play well with the rest of the ingredients. With the sweet texture of whiskey, fruity wines bring out the best of this iconic cocktail.
