About The Week-Long Affair:
Dubai Fashion Week (DFW)–co-founded by Dubai Design District (d3) and Arab Fashion Council–took place at d3 for seven days from 9th to 15th October 2023. The runway then got underway with a sustainability-focused showcase by 25 designers from 12 countries unveiling their spring/summer 2024 collections. The season’s Guest of Honour, Carolina Herrera, is taking the spotlight and unveiling the SS24 presentation with exclusive designs crafted to commemorate this significant occasion.
Carolina Herrera’s Creative Director, Wes Gordon, presented the renowned luxury house’s much-anticipated collection. An intimate dinner was also hosted to honour Wes Gordon. Having Carolina Herrera at the event–a joint project between the Dubai Design District and the Arab Fashion Council–is a triumph for the UAE.
Weinsanto’s thought-provoking pieces reflected his unique perspective on both art and life. With a carefully curated colour palette comprising camel, white, beige, and occasional hints of black, deep green, or raspberry; the collection conveyed a sense of melancholy drama inspired by the concept of “A Perfect Day.”
The models graced the runway in an array of silhouettes, wearing slingback outfits reminiscent of cowboy-style skirts and city shorts paired with crisp white shirts adorned with ties. The evening looks elevated in sophistication, featuring a selection of bustier corset tops paired with oversized pants, some of which were uniquely corseted at the hips.
Not to forget the reimagined wedding dress made of distressed denim and embroidered lace with scalloped edges. The couture collection masterfully translated the designer’s perspective into a striking “vase dress,” constructed as a full-body corset adorned, embodying the essence of Weinsanto’s artistic vision.
Erick Bendana’s “Sky” collection was a beautiful reflection inspired by the three fundamental facets of life. The first facet mirrors the intricate tapestry of existence, from the vibrant and enigmatic highs to the serene pastels of tranquillity. Shades of blue, lilac, and prominent white in seven wedding dresses with various cuts and chemise collars, flower-breasted designs, and broad shoulders celebrated the spectrum of human emotions and experiences.
The second facet delves into the enigmatic beauty of the night, with inky black gowns adorned with feathers and sheer fabrics that allude to the captivating allure of darkness, with subtle hints of shimmer.
The third facet symbolises the triumphant rebirth of light, reflecting the optimism and hope that each new day brings. The colours transition from the deep night to the soft, warm hues of dawn.
On the closing day of Dubai Fashion Week, renowned Malaysian designer duo Rizman Nordin and Ruzaini Jamil unveiled their collection of 60 exquisite looks. The show reached its crescendo when world-renowned supermodel and icon Naomi Campbell graced the runway, donning a magnificent handmade gown adorned with thousands of glistening gemstones.
Whereas, the traditional Malaysian Songket weaved paying homage to the nation’s rich heritage. The Malaysian brand brought an arsenal of textures to the runway, showcasing everything from pleats to sequins and even ostrich feathers across pantsuits and evening dresses.
This collection drew inspiration from the enchanting tale of Seri Gumum, a legendary dragon that once roamed the dark waters of Lake Chini. The designs boasted ornate beadwork and sequins, with a colour palette spanning from turquoise and chromatic rose gold to burnt orange, silver, and the designer’s trademark deep black. Each piece exuded elegance while featuring beaded fabrics, graceful ostrich feathers, and dramatic chiffon drapes.
