Talking about your profession, how did you start working as a model and what inspired you to pursue it?
It was a very lovely coincident. I was an intern at fashion week backstage, running around errands for designers, helping dressing models, and checking in guests. Then a designer was short of models. He grabbed me and asked: “Can you walk in high heels?” I was like: “I can try.” Before I even realized the next second, I was sent to makeup and hair. Just like that I did my first runway. Telling designers’ stories together with creative artists is always the inspiration of modeling to me.
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is the soul of a human body. Every day we dress up. The color we choose, styles we follow, details we pay attention to are like telling stories of ourselves. Some involves influences from grandparents during childhood, some gained during adolescence, some infused with intimate memories with loved ones. The meaning of fashion, it changes through time as we age. It is an attitude and a way to express oneself.
If not a model, or a creative director, who would Yueyao Li be? What would your life be like?
I have been doing creative directing and producing for a while in NYC. Now that I’m in Paris without access to my team in NYC, I have been painting more. I guess I would have been a poor painter at a cottage on the top of a cliff that facing the Pacific Ocean. Exchange food for my oil paintings with the local villagers.

Looking at you, your fitness speaks boldly! What is the secret behind your fitness?
I rarely go to the gym. But I do pay lots of attention on my diet. The food I eat is always clean and light. Salads, Soup or stew… I never overcook because you have to keep the veggies alive to pass the energy to your body. I have fasting sometimes, too. It kept me energized and focused.

Wear sunscreen every day regardless indoor or outdoor, sunny or cloudy. Try to Stay away from overly processed food. Last but not least, be happy, smile more with positive attitude.

I will stay in Paris until next summer, continue painting and start my own phone case brand. Then head back to NYC and resume my Fine Art studies at Parsons. Like always, live in the present, keep my mind open with a positive attitude, aiming to send more inspiration and love to the surrounding world.
