Dropping By The Spice Island

With a recurrent hint of spice permeating the air, Grenada is the perfect place to visit. One of the lesser-known islands, it is an unexplored destination, making it perfect for those who wish to have a relaxing vacation.

GRAND ANSE BEACH

Another lesser-known tourist destination, Grenada can be found poised upon the tip of an archipelago stretching along the Caribbean Sea's edge. It is an island country that is situated in the West Indies. A stunningly breath-taking string of islands, Grenada is dotted by green hills and bleached beaches stretching into azure waters.

It is comprised of 3 isles - Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. Thus, its main attractions all revolve around the sea. The hotels here are charming and boutique-style offering a homey stay. The omnipresent smell of spices has earned this island the nickname of the 'Spice Island.' The capital of the island is Saint George’s.

GRAND ANSE BEACH

GRAND ANSE BEACH

Grand Anse is pretty much the most popular beach in Grenada. The water's hue changes from clear turquoise to a deep cobalt blue, and the calmness of the waves makes it perfect for swimming. If you wish to shop for souvenirs or local wares, you have the option to make a stop at the Grande Anse Craft and Spice Market that is situated midway along the beach. Most of Grenada's best hotels lie along the beach's shores - including one of the island's most famous boutique hotels.

ST. GEORGE’S TOWN

ST. GEORGE’S TOWN

St. George's is one of the prettiest port towns of the Caribbean. It is curved along a horseshoe-shaped harbor that is backed by volcanic hills. The beauty of the town has often been compared to walking through an oil painting itself. If you explore the St. George's marina; also known as the Carenage; you will encounter a plethora of restaurants that serve local cuisine. If you wish to gain an introduction to the Grenadian culture, this is the perfect place for you to visit.

The city boasts two main attractions: Fort George and Fort Frederick. You can enjoy spectacular views of the town and sea from both. You can also visit the Grenada National Museum that offers plenty of insight into Grenada's history. If you wish to buy fresh local tropical fruits and even spices, you can make a stop at the Saturday morning market at the St. George's Market Square. The House of Chocolate is another place you cannot miss. It offers exhibits on the local cocoa industry and you can even sample the decadent treats. So, if you're a chocoholic, don't miss it even accidentally.

UNDERWATER SCULPTURE PARK

UNDERWATER SCULPTURE PARK

Grenada's west coast, just a short drive north of St. George's at Moliniere Bay, a unique gallery can be seen. The uniqueness here is that it is submerged underwater and also doubles as an artificial reef in the marine protected area. It was created by artist Jason deCaires Taylor and the sculptures have a varied range - from Amerindian petroglyphs to life-size figures from local children. The underwater park can be accessed by divers, snorkelers, and passengers aboard glass-bottom boats.
