Monica Dogra: Raising The Bar
The tall, leggy lass has won accolades for singing, acting and dancing. Now we are all watching out for her fashion line.

Monica Dogra, one half of the band Shaa’ir and Func, is used to raising expectations. Seldom do you come across Indian female singers who are so well put together. “I don’t think I am raising expectations, but if you say so, I’ll take that as a compliment,” she says. The 31-year-old shot to fame with Dhobi Ghat in 2010, which she had earlier refused. “It was only when I read the script that I changed my mind. It was not your run-of-the-mill story that objectified women.” She’s all set to play a home breaker of sorts in her short film, Severing Ties, that stars Gulshan Devaiah and Kalki Koechlin as husband and wife. With two other movies in the pipeline, she is more focused on music as her new album is on the verge of a roll-out, and so is her own fashion line. The tomboy, who prefers whisky to beer, admits that she’s not a bag or shoes type of girl. “I don’t like accessories,” she says. “I love clothes. You should come and check my wardrobe. It’s full of clothes!”
