Met Gala 2015: Cheesy Or Classy?
Much as we love pretty dresses, we like it a bit more when celebs break the rules! To take the road less travelled, requires valour, some were bang on target, others missed the boat.

Too much was not enough at the Met Gala 2015 taking place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

One would think Rihanna’s Guo Pei Gown would very much overwhelm her but the never-ending trail (or the social media dissing it, calling it a ‘cheese omlette’) failed to take her dazzle away. As the glitziest guest list from Hollywood were in attendance with a theme called ‘China: Through the looking glass’, it could very well make for a costume party with cultural stereotypes, but several celebrities like Cara Delevingne in a Stella McCartney jumpsuit and Sienna Miller in a Thakoon pant suit stood out, ditching the beaten route. Several celebrities were ignorant enough by ending accessories at chopsticks and making cliché Chinese eyelash batting as their yardstick for posing. Leaving little to imagination, heads bowed down when Queen Bey, Kim K. and J. Lo wore a bejewelled Givenchy, feathered Roberto Cavalli and a Versace gown getting their toned bodies worthy of the gazillion paparazzi flashes. Sarah Jessica Parker’s over-sized Philip Treacy headgear and her custom-made H&M dress were denounced as a bad interpretation of the theme in spite of her honest creative endeavours. Anne Hathaway in a gold Ralph Lauren, Jennifer Lawrence in a Dior Couture and Carrie Mulligan in a black Balenciaga were as beautiful as their distinguished work in the entertainment business. With so many A-listers, the real stars of the show were Chinese actresses Xen Li in Alexander McQueen, Fan Bingbing in a Christopher Bu cape and Gong Li in a beautiful velvet gown cascading through the crowds with immense beauty truly representing what progressive China stands for in the global style dictionary.
