Freedom bottled in fragrance

The first of the fragrances created by French fashion brand Coco Chanel in 1921 is nearing its 100th year. Here’s how its new fragrance emanates liberation.

Freedom bottled in fragrance

The fragrance, Chanel No. 5 that carries almost a centenary-year-old legacy, is based on the parasol vision of creator Gabrielle Chanel who reportedly saw it as the fragrance of tomorrow. And indeed, keeping up with this futuristic idea, the new perfume ‘No. 5 Chanel Paris Parfum’ has added another feather to its journey.

The perfume since its launch in late October has been peddled with glittery AV campaign. The alluring AV features the new brand ambassador of No. 5 fragrances, French actress Marion Cotillard who was seen swaying and dancing with a man on the Moon! The AV heralds a seductive, joyous dance of seduction where the woman is living in the moment with a feral like demeanour that exudes a resolve to fulfill the biggest of the dreams.

The brand has been rigorously marketing the product dropping subtle hints on its theme from its social media posts where it emphasizes, “Don't go with the flow; create it”. The campaign behind the product calls to think big, wild and in the most unfettered way.

The fragrance can appeal to those who have a thing for wearing something sensuous and flowery. However, some might find the scent a bit strong

The past perfumes that were featured in this series allude to the composition of various flower scents and this new addition is no different. The fragrance has Aldehydes, Bergamot, Lemon, Neroli, Ylang-Ylang in top notes. The middle notes include Jasmine, Rose, Orris Root, Iris and Lily of The Valley while the base notes have Civet, Amber, Sandalwood, Musk, Moss, Patchouli, Vanilla and Vetiver, Iris and Lily of The Valley.

The fragrance can appeal to those who have a thing for wearing something sensuous and flowery. However, some might find the scent a bit strong in odour as the dominant notes in the fragrance are tangy fruits like Lemon, Bergamot and Ylang Ylang. It's entirely on the individual to decide, how the fragrance bodes for them in accenting their feminine sensibilities and sensuality.

Having known about the flowery scents used in the new perfume, one would wonder about the oddity of enticing the gold shimmery Moon campaign that did not have anything flowery!

Anyhow, coming to the design, the fragrance comes in classic age-old bottle of the No. 5 collections with trademark round-edged rectangular contours. The crystal glass bottle has a slim transparent cap for the opening while the frontal has ‘No. 5 Chanel Paris’ imprinted in bold Geometric Sans font stamping the virtuosity of the brand.
