Aloïse Sauvage: Singing Her Tune
Aloïse Sauvage wears many hats. This dancer-poet-musician-actor takes up scripts that are off the beaten track.

First recognised for her performance in 120 Battements par minute, Aloïse Sauvage moves, grooves, plays and sings with the same ease with which she breathes. This graduate from the Académie Fratellini will soon have her new music album out along with posters for the new Vincent Mariette film, Fauves in which she stars with Lily-Rose Depp and Laurent Lafitte. Excerpts from an interview with the young gun as she goes about juggling her music and film careers.
How have your experiences as a comedian, dancer and an acrobat nurtured your music?

On set or on the screen, who I am has been nurtured and encouraged by all that I have learnt from these various activities. Doing everything at the same time is my style. I have always had trouble sticking to one thing. It was not particularly easy, since one is always expected to choose. Better to know myself now through my voice than through my body and naturally larger is the range of things I offer.
What is your relationship with the French language?
I love it. It is such a rich language. I was fortunate enough to have had parents who gave me the gift of reading, and then passionate professors who continued to show me how much of an impact words alone can have. From a very young age, I wrote poems, in rhyme or in prose, which I called, slams because I had not yet got the music that would help me bring them to life in a different manner. I would jot down my thoughts the moment they came to mind, with which I would put together a song.
How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?
It is a musical universe being born, which doesn’t even know itself yet, where words are key as they are chanted, sung and rapped. A hip-hop energy but music without a genre, a direct communique without codes.
At what time does your alarm normally ring in the morning?
It is different every day, depends on what I have to do and what was on the night before.
What is the first thing that you do?
Stop the alarm and look at my smartphone, check emails, notifications, the news.
What do you like to do in the morning?
I love stretching. It gets my body in shape to get my day started, as I should.
Your ideal meal?
From a good bit of bread to salad, avocadoes, poached egg and, as a bonus, some smoked salmon. And why not, on a glorious day, a bit of brebis cheese and honey from my uncle’s. I don’t drink coffee. It’s just green tea for me.
