Welcome to L’Officiel, Sofia! First things first, please share with us your tremendous journey into the world of modelling and beauty pageants.
It all began with my passion for modelling and makeup. While studying in Paris, I delved into makeup artistry, creating unique looks for different occasions and venues. I showcased my makeup creations on Instagram and later joined an international modelling agency while continuing my studies. After completing my master’ degree at Paris 2 Pantheon Assas, I worked as a project chief manager. Subsequently, I participated in a beauty contest in Lebanon and won the title of Miss Arab 2019/2020, which was renewed for 2020/2021. And, then pursued TV presenting courses with a professional for a year. Eventually, this opened the door to a career in TV presenting at MBC Group, one of the leading Arabic channels. Working at MBC, I gained valuable experience and even ventured into acting, taking on my first role in the Turkish series “Love for Rent”.
“I would advise any aspiring model to have a trustworthy support system, such as parents or family, to confide in and rely on.”
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced as an international model, particularly coming from a non-traditional modelling background?
In my culture, modelling wasn’t widely accepted, presenting one of the challenges I faced. Initially, I entered the field with no prior knowledge or support network, and learnt everything from scratch. Today, I have gained extensive experience and a deep understanding of the industry. It’s important to approach this field with caution, as not everyone has good intentions, especially in the glamorous world of modelling. I would advise any aspiring model to have a trustworthy support system, such as parents or family, to confide in and rely on.
“My spiritual journey has profoundly influenced my personal growth and career in the fashion industry.”
What are your thoughts on the future of fashion, particularly in terms of sustainability and ethical practices?
I appreciate the idea of reusing and minimizing waste in the fashion industry, as it’s a collective responsibility that resonates with my spiritual beliefs. From a spiritual perspective, conserving resources and minimizing waste are encouraged, reflecting the value of not squandering anything. It’s important to note that while I advocate for sustainable practices, it doesn’t diminish my appreciation for luxury and valuable items. This balance aligns with my personal values and the evolving ethos of the fashion industry.
“Additionally, now I assert boundaries and stand up for myself when faced with situations that no longer serve me. “.
Many individuals find strength and guidance through their spiritual beliefs. Can you share how your spiritual journey has influenced your personal growth and career in the fashion industry?
My spiritual journey has profoundly influenced my personal growth and career in the fashion industry. When I first started, I had limited experience in the entertainment industry but was deeply connected to spirituality. I was extremely ambitious and often pushed myself forcefully. However, with time I have adopted a more relaxed approach, flowing with the universe’s options and not forcing anything. Now, I embrace life as it is, finding joy and contentment in every moment. I prioritize peace, happiness, and fulfilment, being fully present in the present. I firmly believe in destiny and alignment, which has brought a sense of harmony to my life. Additionally, now I assert boundaries and stand up for myself when faced with situations that no longer serve me. This balance has become integral to my personal and professional well-being.
“In the past, I used to buy flowers and chocolate for myself, loved ones, and family, embracing it as an occasion to express love and spread positivity.”
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, do you have any favourite Valentine’s Day memories or traditions from your childhood or growing up in Morocco that you still hold dear to your heart?
As Valentine’s Day approaches, I would like to extend a heartfelt wish for happiness and love to all the people in the world, whether they are single or taken. May this day be filled with love, joy, and meaningful connections for everyone.
Personally, I find great joy in celebrating events like Valentine’s Day. In the past, I used to buy flowers and chocolate for myself, loved ones, and family, embracing it as an occasion to express love and spread positivity. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the beauty of love and appreciation, and I cherish the spirit of this day. From the joy of giving and receiving to the simple acts of kindness, I believe that Valentine’s Day is a beautiful reminder to embrace love in all its forms and to spread warmth and affection to those around us.
