“It was a successful collaboration with our team of models, makeup and hair stylist, PR management of the hotel, plus me as the director and photographer, as well as the fashion designer and other fantastic people who participated in the project.”

Hollywood 2.0 is a women’s led project introducing gender diffusion in modern fashion. Art and fashion photographer Elena Dorman has recently presented her new project – Hollywood 2.0. We decided to speak with Elena and her main muse for this project – model Dagliê Santos.

“I wanted to bring the sound of a broken string to the wholeness of old Hollywood, the feeling of decadence and fragility while still capturing classy-looking models, but this time in color.”

Hi Elena, what inspired you on your work?

If you would ask me what comes to mind when I hear the word “Hollywood,” I would say – images… photography – probably black and white, with beautiful women captured in lights. I was inspired by these types of pictures taken by Cecil Beaton, Richard Avedon, and other photographers of this genre.

Did I want to imitate?

Yes and no. I wanted to bring the sound of a broken string to the wholeness of old Hollywood, the feeling of decadence and fragility while still capturing classy-looking models, but this time in color.

“When I saw Dagliê, it was like, “Yes! That’s her – the new face of modern Hollywood.” She is brilliant, the way she acts in front of the camera…”

Tell us more about your collaboration with Dagliê; why did she become your muse?

Everything starts with an idea in my head. I wanted the heroine of this story to be chic, intentionally posed, yet dynamic simultaneously, as if you would think about a Japanese ikebana flower arrangement, where lines, angles, and proportions create a certain rhythm and harmony. When I saw Dagliê, it was like, “Yes! That’s her – the new face of modern Hollywood.” She is brilliant, the way she acts in front of the camera… I set the mood for her; she plays it like an actress. When I look at her images from this project, I see the unique combination of condensed sexual energy, boyish spontaneity, and an angled androgyne body with feline plasticity.

Last month this project was exhibited at the AFA Gallery in Washington DC at a juried show, where it received much positive attention! It was a successful collaboration with our team of models, makeup and hair stylist, PR management of the hotel, plus me as the director and photographer, as well as the fashion designer and other fantastic people who participated in the project.

Dagliê, can you tell us about your experience working with Elena? How does it feel to be the face of new Hollywood?

I have worked as a model for years in Asia, Europe, and South America, and through that, I have learned many different posing skills and how to adapt to different cultures and teams.

Also, attending the Coco Rocha Model Camp helped me to think outside the box and to be unafraid of bringing my bold, energetic, and playful self out to be an instrument of a piece of art.

Well, Elena is a bright, brilliant, clever and imaginative photographer. Throughout the entire process, Elena was cooperative, courteous, and dedicated.

All these qualities made possible a productive, intense, but light and fun, creative process, and we worked towards the goal as a team under her artistic direction.

Our team, which includes the talented makeup artist Vea Bak, shared a spirit of adventure, openness, and hard work, allowing us to create something special together. Elena was always attentive to our needs and focused on ensuring we achieved the best possible outcome. Her efficiency and diligence were evident in every aspect of the project, from the makeup and hair styling to the PR management of the hotel (our location).

I felt honoured to be a part of this project and to showcase my experience and skills as a model while contributing to something which turned out fantastic result.
