Your Ultimate Travel Checklist

Every year, countless people head out to Thailand for the ultimate vacation. No surprises there since Thailand is one of the most accessible and well-lived travel destinations in Southeast Asia. This tropical paradise stretches more than 1,000 miles and hovers near the equator. The weather does vary quite dramatically here, so we recommend visiting accordingly! That said, Thailand is a great country to visit and if you're worried about the extreme footfall, then we have the solution for you: visit some of the lesser-known and visited places. March happens to be a great time to visit this tropical paradise. There is a range of things you can do here. So, if you were looking for places to add on to your travel itinerary this month, here is the ultimate checklist for the ones planning their trips to Thailand this month.

Climb up the Sathorn Unique Tower

Climb up the Sathorn Unique Tower

A humongous abandoned skyscraper known as the 'Sawthorn Unique' is what you will find in the heart of Bangkok. It was started during the late nineties but due to the global financial crisis, the building was never completed. While this is not an official tourist attraction, a small payment to the security guards at the bottom will ensure you access. A little warning though: this place is not for the faint-hearted! The 49 stories high building provides a difficult climb but also offers some of the most breathtaking views of Bangkok from the top. Another thing: Thai people actually believe the tower to be haunted and you'll understand why as you start to climb your way up.

Visit Kanchanaburi and the Bridge Over the River Kwai

Visit Kanchanaburi and the Bridge Over the River Kwai

Located 130 km northwest of Bangkok, Kanchanaburi is yet another place you shouldn't miss while in Thailand. Even if you've never heard this name before, you must have heard about the Bridge Over the River Kwai - an important tourist and historical site in Thailand. This bridge is the symbol of the city's tragic past during the Second World War. Out of the 688 bridges the Japanese army built, this was the only steel bridge built in Thailand. So, if you're interested in history, you should give this place a visit. In addition to the Bridge Over the River Kwai, another more cheerful place you can visit in the surroundings of Kanchanaburi is the Erawan National Park.

Lopburi

Lopburi

If you're wondering what to do next in Thailand you should head over to Lopburi. Lopburi is about an hour's drive away from Ayutthaya. It is one of the oldest cities in the country and hosts quite a few ruined temples. However, these temples aren't the main attraction there! Most visitors actually come to take a look at the numerous monkeys you'll find here. The most famous site here - both for the monkeys and the architecture, is Prang Sam Yot. You'll find literally hundreds of monkeys among the ruins of Lopburi.

Sukhothai

Sukhothai

If you find visiting temples interesting and would like to visit more during your trip to Thailand, you can also visit Sukhothai. The Sukhothai Historical Park is located in northern Thailand, 400 km from Bangkok and 280 km from Chiang Mai. It is a former capital of the Siam Kingdom and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll find several ruined temples here spread over 3 areas: the central area, the North zone and the West zone. It is a must-see during road trips in Thailand and will take you about 4 hours to visit these 3 areas if you're going by car.

Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is the other major city in northern Thailand. Located 200 km northeast of Chiag Mai, it also has an airport with daily flights to Bangkok or the southern islands such as Phuket or Krabi. You can also reach it by bus or car. There are several places to see here: the main reason travelers go to this city is for the white temple or Wat Rong Khun. Head to the blue temple or Wat Rong Suea Ten where everything is blue. The Night Bazaar is where you should head to if shopping is what you want to do. You'll get all kinds of souvenirs here. A rather unusual place to visit will be The Black House Musuem or Baandam Musuem. Here you'll find small houses decorated with crocodile skins and other objects that are quite "dark" and original.
