Joy on Paper

This poetic anthology pays tribute to creative collaborations. “An Exercise in Style” gives us an insider’s perspective into the universe of the legendary jewellery house.

This book boasts of a certain finesse, which is so increasingly rare in our times. This project has seen the light of day, thanks to the vision of Nicolas Bos, the President of Van Cleef & Arpels. The famed Gallimard Publications lent its support to this vision, resulting in this eloquent and refined collaboration, between the two 100-year-old brands. The project for this book took a long time to be realised... almost like a rare piece of jewellery. An ‘Exercise in Style’ is much more than a book. It is a unique piece of art, where every page features a poetic collaboration between a personality from the field of arts, fashion or literature (Natalie Dessay, Camille Laurens, Marie Modiano and Alber Elbaz) and a specific aspect from the repertoire of the French jeweller (for example, the Zip, or the Pierres de Caractère). Words, images and numbers come together on the page, to create infinite surprises in the mind of the reader. And, of course, lets the imagination run wild.
