With notable models that showcase each brand's distinct heritage and design philosophy, the 2025 luxury watch scene exhibits an impressive fusion of tradition and innovation. These timepieces offer unique displays of style and craftsmanship, ranging from Hublot's colourful, athletic Big Bang Unico Summer edition to Girard-Perregaux's artisanal enamel artistry in the Laureato Infinite Grey. Although Patek Philippe's updated Calatrava continues to exemplify elegant simplicity with subtle yet deliberate refinements, Rolex makes a bold statement with its vintage-inspired Land-Dweller collection, ushering in a new era of integrated sports watches.

Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42 mm Infinite Grey:

The brand formally renamed the model “Laureato,” which means “The Graduate” in Italian, due to the tremendous interest from Italian collectors. In keeping with its history, the watch keeps its recognisable octagonal bezel, which is set atop the iconic tonneau-shaped case that devoted followers will recognise right away. However, the Grand Feu enamel dial is what really draws the eye at first glance. This mixture creates a gentle bluish-grey tone and is made from a precise blend of silica, minium, potash, soda, and metal oxides. To get its depth and durability, the enamel is applied in thin layers and fired in a kiln at about 800°C—typically five to ten times.

Each completed piece is made even more remarkable by the fact that many dials are discarded for even small flaws due to the delicate and unpredictable nature of the process. The watch, which is 42 mm in diameter and only 10.68 mm thick, strikes a balance between elegance and wrist presence. While maintaining a sleek, wearable profile, the contrast between polished and satin-brushed steel surfaces gives the visual design depth and complexity.

Hublot Big Bang Unico Summer:

With its striking orange case and sky blue bezel, Hublot's Summer 2025 limited edition of the Big Bang Unico exudes a lively seasonal flair while eloquently capturing the fresh tones of coastal waters and the warmth of sunsets. The Big Bang Unico line carries on that tradition here by combining sophisticated micro-blasted ceramic in a deep orange hue with subtly incorporated, albeit unofficial, references to the famous Gulf Oil racing livery.

Although the collection has experimented with both more muted colours like Mint Green and Petrol Blue and more striking ones like orange and dark green in the past, this 2025 release strikes a harmonious yet vibrant sweet spot. With its traditional Big Bang Unico dimensions of 42 mm in width and 14.5 mm in thickness, it has a powerful wrist presence without going overboard. Six H-shaped titanium screws hold the sky blue ceramic bezel in place, creating a stunning contrast with the dark blue composite resin case extensions. With two screws on each side, these visually match the blue hues of the dial's main plate on either side of the case.

Rolex Land-Dweller:

With ten distinct references, the Rolex Land-Dweller is not just a stand-alone watch; it is the first in a brand-new collection. These come in two case sizes, 36mm and 40mm, and are made of a variety of materials, such as platinum, Everose gold, and Rolesor, a steel and white gold combination. The brand claims that this is just the start and that new dial colours, materials, and finishing styles will likely be added in the future. New complications are unlikely to be added to the Land-Dweller anytime soon, though.

Rather than incorporating its complications into new models, Rolex has historically designed them to fit particular collections, such as the GMT-Master II's GMT functions, the Daytona's chronographs, and the Sky-Dweller's calendars or dual-time displays. The Land-Dweller represents a substantial advancement in Rolex's design strategy. The brand now freely admits that it was significantly influenced by vintage Rolex references, which is a change from its custom of preferring subdued continuity to overt historical allusions. Additionally, the Land-Dweller marks Rolex's comeback into the integrated-style sports watch market, which has been a thriving design trend for many years.

Patek Philippe Calatrava:

While maintaining the traditional identity that characterises the Calatrava line, the latest generation of Patek Philippe's xx96 series offers a number of deliberate updates, some aesthetic and some mechanical. The watch's size has changed most noticeably; it is now 38 mm in diameter and 9.33 mm thick, which is slightly bigger than its long-discontinued predecessor, which was 37 mm in diameter and about 8 mm thick. Although these adjustments aren't significant, they do give the watch a slightly more noticeable wrist presence without sacrificing its elegant proportions.

Even though it is no longer considered ultra-thin, it wears flatter than its numbers indicate thanks to a thin middle case. It is still the aesthetic ideal of the Calatrava purist. The middle portion of the case is slim and gracefully transitions into long, pointed lugs. A polished, flat coin-edge bezel sits atop it, and a delicately domed sapphire crystal adds dimension without being overt. With the exception of the brushed flanks, the case is completely polished.
