The Lace Lore

The Lace Lore

MRINALINI GUPTA Gupta’s collection was called The Saturate, showcased wedge hemlines, lounge dresses, wood block jackets and window pane shirts in shades of white sand, wood, tan, stone and gravel. Skirts, maxi-dresses, flowing palazzos, dresses and kurtas were the mainstay of this range. The colour palette added to the earthiness of the collection, providing recourse from heavily embellished sensibilities. URVASHI KAUR Called Semah, Kaur’s collection was fluid with a contained colour palette of ochre, ecru, grey, red and indigo. A play of pastels and nudes synced the collection further with its underlying message. Asymmetrical lines, billowing tops, angarakhas on Djellaba inspired apparel, wrap jumpsuits, cowled salwars and Persian pyjamas took to the ramp with complete ease.

KRISHNA MEHTA The Magic Woven…by Krishna Mehta unleashed woven magic on to the ramp as elegant and free-flowing pants, kurtas, palazzos, skirts and capes sashayed down it. Handwoven silk, cottons, Kinkhabs, Tanchoi and cutwork fabrics with multiple weaving methods such as Jaikart with extra yarn complemented the collection. Easy-tocombine separates were the mainstay of this collection.

ANEETH ARORA Péro by Aneeth Arora drew inspiration from a romantic fashion sensibility. Pretty straw hats with danglers, glitter lace shoes in bubblegum pink, floral and checks mixed with polka dots and red-pink hearts. Black and white took the spotlight with accents of reds and pinks. Airy tunics, asymmetrical jackets in Chanderi, lace dresses and lace-panelled tops, wide-legged bottoms and Ikat jumpsuits. This collection took the polka dot on to Ikats and Jamdanis. HEMANT & NANDITA She is a flower girl. Hemant and Nandita’s garments moved away from their usual form-fitted apparel to a go-easy collection that incorporated white lace, polka dots and heart prints. Lace played an integral part, while denim and organza were the fabrics employed. Mix and match was at play, here, with embroideries in multi-tonal thread work and appliqué on denim.

DEV r NIL This duo developed their own lace for their collection. Cropped tops, jackets with fluid printed skirts and palazzos and saris with bolero jackets created an interesting interplay of textures and illusions. The colour palette fled from the serene to the random with pops of coral, burnt yellows, mints and nudes against black, slate and grey.
