The Divergent Paths of Automotive Supremacy

We track the extremes of modern engineering: the ultimate Grand Tourer, rebuilt with E-Diff control and explosive power; the electric SAV that conquers range anxiety with 400kW charging; and the elegant, digitalized shooting brake that marries style with space.

The Divergent Paths of Automotive Supremacy

The road-warriors of tomorrow are lining up, and the fight is crystal clear: watts versus horsepower. On one side stands the new-generation electric elite like the BMW iX3 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake, wielding ultra-efficient 800-volt architectures to command the range-and-charge game. The iX3 boasts an 800 V system and supports up to 400 kW DC fast charging, adding approximately 372 km in just 10 minutes. And the CLA Shooting Brake is no slouch either, with a claimed WLTP range up to 761 km and 320 kW charging capability via its 800 V architecture.

Meanwhile, the Aston Martin DB12 rises as a bold reminder that internal-combustion still has muscle and soul. Its twin-turbo V8 delivers 671 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of around 3.5 seconds. This is not just power, it's heritage blended with precision electronics and mechanical artistry.

So here we are: the definitive showdown. On one side, the sleek, silent surge of sustainable electric muscle. On the other hand, the raw, emotion-fuelled roar of internal combustion. In the end, it’s about more than speed—it’s about what your drive says about you.

Engineering pushed past all limits: electric range, luxury practicality, and visceral power.

BMW iX3

BMW iX3

The electric revolution has found its new champion in the BMW iX3. This vehicle is engineered to erase the long-distance compromises of the past. Built on the visionary Neue Klasse architecture, its foundation is a high-speed 800-volt system. This system powers sixth-generation eDrive technology. This leap in engineering delivers two core promises of freedom: range and time.

With a certified WLTP range of up to 805 km (nearly 500 miles), the need to constantly monitor the charge map is over. The iX3 introduces hyper-capable charging at up to 400 kW. This allows the driver to recover up to 372 km of travel in a mere 10 minutes. Charging breaks become fast pit stops. The iX3 is an experience of uncompromised electric power. It merges agility and cutting-edge technology to truly redefine mobility.

Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake

Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake

The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake masterfully blends the sleek, four-door coupé aesthetic with the practicality of an estate, marking its debut as the brand's first fully electric Shooting Brake. Built on the advanced Modular Mercedes Architecture (MMA), the CLA ushers in a new era of efficiency, boasting a phenomenal WLTP range of up to 761 km (473 miles) in the CLA 250+ model. This long-distance capability is complemented by an 800-volt architecture, enabling hyper-fast DC charging up to 320 kW, which can recover 310 km of range in just 10 minutes. Beyond its electric prowess, the car features an extended roofline that increases cargo space to 1,290 litres (with seats down), and its cabin is a digital showcase, centred on the seamless MBUX Superscreen that stretches across the dashboard. The CLA Shooting Brake is a perfect expression of "entry luxury," delivering style, sustainability, and superior function.

Aston Martin DB12

The Aston Martin DB12 is fundamentally defined as the world's first Super Tourer, a machine that transcends the traditional Grand Tourer segment with an intense focus on power and dynamic control. It draws immense strength from a significantly reworked 4.0-litre Twin-Turbo V8 engine, pushing output to a colossal 671 horsepower (680 PS) and 800 Nm of torque—a massive increase over its predecessor. This aggressive power is managed by a structural rigidity improvement and, crucially, the integration of a Formula 1-derived Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff), a first for the DB line, which instantly optimizes torque delivery for unparalleled agility. Inside, the DB12 sheds the past with a bespoke, intuitive Aston Martin infotainment system that finally brings the technology up to speed with its breathtaking performance and luxurious craftsmanship.
