Stocking Up on Style
One recent trend is stockings. Whereas earlier stockings were thought to be a classic or low-key accessory, they have now become a statement piece, breaking into street and luxury fashion.

From dramatic colors to creative matching with outlandish combinations, stockings have been more diverse and trendier than ever, coming up against everything from ordinary ensembles to fashion runways. So, let's review stocking returns to the closet as well as wearing in 2025.

Stockings have been steadily returning to fashion in recent years. Brightly coloured stockings and socks, which were a staple of the Gossip Girl days, have returned, with styles such as the "pop of red" causing ripples in late 2023 and Prada's spring/summer 2025 lineup. The trend for pants, ignited by Miu Miu's autumn/winter 23/24 collection, welcomed sheer tights as a trendy substitute for trousers. Even basic ankle stockings and knee-high garters have been popularized, appearing in TikTok trends and poking out of loafers and ballet flats.

Now, in 2025, we're experiencing a retro return to how we wore stockings back in 2010. This could be seen at Chanel's spring/summer 2025 couture show, where two of the world's most influential fashion icons showcased this trend on the pavement outside the Grand Palais in Paris. Sheer stockings are great for a sophisticated touch without bulk. Either they can be paired with a dress or under a skirt, as they give a sophisticated look without being too layered. Fleece-lined stockings or fur-lined stockings provide warmth without letting go of the style, and they go with oversized sweaters or style-trendy winter dresses.

Stockings are versatile enough for almost any outfit, from flowy skirts to dresses.
Tanned women can stunningly wear a range of warm colours—or, if you want to put your finger on it lightly, soft shades like caramel beige, ivory, and cream could be the answer. When even sheer coverage is just too much, textures can provide a light and delicate charm—imagine fine lace or mesh, with nude fishnets providing subtle seduction by dialling things back. To add a bolder touch, use icy bridal tones or go for black feathered lace or stripes to create a dramatic statement.
Ribbed stockings are a wonderful way to add texture to your wardrobe, combining comfort with style. They're ideal for wearing with a hoodie or sweater, staying warm while still being put together. Stockings are versatile enough to go with almost any outfit, from flowy skirts to thick sweaters or woolen dresses, making them a must-have accessory you didn't realize you needed.
