Sometimes Diamonds Are Not Enough

Sometimes Diamonds Are Not Enough

We do come across various terms in our daily routine. You might have heard words like ‘Classic, Legendary, and Luxury’ but what do you understand by the word ‘Elegance’? It’s more of a feeling than just a word – elegance is connected to all of the words that we just mentioned above. Some people are known for their deeds, some for their personalities, but some people are known for their elegance. There is no bookish definition of this word that we can explain, but one thing certainly can; watches. What is the use of a watch when you can’t be elegant? Well, different types of watches come in different packages but what we have got for you today might be the package of your dreams. Do you want to know what it is? Well, wait no more, just look below!

Founded in 1868, the brand is nearly 155 years old and has again and again emphasised craftsmanship, practicality, and most importantly – creating a legacy. These terms might sound a wee bit vague but we have to give props to IWC Schaffhausen for creating some of the finest pieces in the watch industry.

The watch that we are about to discuss is one of IWC's most reliable series - The Portofino. We have specifically chosen the latest edition of the brand’s Portofino series; IWC Portofino Automatic 34 18 carats. Although this watch has been in the limelight, it has been for all the reasons you would not want your epitome of luxurious craftsmanship to be in the spotlight.

Talking about the watch itself – to be very honest, the watch bears a quite minimalistic design with Roman numerals woven all around the dial and a simple single-tone case. Even though the case has a single colour, it is encased in a genuine 18 ct. gold case with a specially made alligator pattern leather strap by Santoni. Undoubtedly, the diamond finish dial and the diamond-embedded bezels are the highlights of this watch.

As for the aesthetics, IWC has been fine but many people complain about the irregular dial beats and the watch stopping at intervals despite the auto-wind movement. Even after several repairs by IWC Schaffhausen, the watch is being thrashed for its defects. The brand said the official time for it to be off is about 30 seconds, but users are complaining that these intervals are up to 1 minute. In a semi-automatic watch, we might've ignored the issue, but this defect affects the whole timepiece, which in turn spoils the experience of owning an IWC Schaffhausen watch.
