Even though the world is still grappling with COVID-19 and work from home is becoming a norm, the fashion industry never stopped and has been brave enough to go through and present all the new products and styles in recent fashion shows, though they were all generally virtual.

On the other hand, China has been trying hard to get back to the days before COVID and reclaim the norm before the pandemic hit our world. In a step towards a pre-pandemic era, the world of fashion is also trying its best to get back to physical shows in China. The Shanghai Fashion Week (SFW) Autumn-Winter 2021, was one such step, with four physical venues across the city. The brands included were local as well as international which made the shows a mix of culture, history and international trends. The theme of “Blooms of Spring” was chosen for the month of April.

The show was majorly ruled by the domestic young and upcoming designers who were not only confident but also charmed the audience and even displayed a maturity in their designs while also being environment conscious and including the concerned matter in their themes.

One of the major upcoming trends that we observed during Shanghai Fashion Week was of knitted sweater, bags and even hats. In a way the clothes and accessories that were showcased felt accessible enough to be carried by the fashion enthusiasts across town. As the show was culturally enriched, another major trend was of headwear, that were traditional in nature and showcased the rich culture of the country.

Angel Chen unveiled her new collaboration with Ty’s Grocery, a local brand, for her accessories series. Puffed up bags, fur bags, dramatic head-wears and bold makeup and hairstyles was the light of the show. A mixture of western and Chinese trend was definitely seen throughout the fashion week.

One thing that looked promising and was seen even in other designers shows was the use of head-wears, or hats that covered not only the head but even the face of the models with a circular band around the main body.

On the other hand, the trend of knee high boots was carried on, with the difference of colour, pattern, material and every brand’s unique style. Another carry on trend was of cat styled eyewear in different shades, sizes and styles. Overall, the fashion trends shown were dramatic and yet enough of a street style that we are sure to see some around soon.
