No longer must you wait until various tabloids will get a hot tip from an anonymous source marking the latest skincare ingredients various celebrities are infusing in their regime. However, we think it has already started, as just a look around us— on social platforms, drugstore shelves, online websites and on our own dressing table, and we can find a clear notion that skincare, in general, is having quite a moment. In contemporary times consumers are becoming more interested in and educated about what they are putting on their skin, and the industry is acknowledging it. All we have to realise is that putting a little extra into the skin will not only reap long-term premia, but it will also build a knock-on impact on our makeup routine. Smoother skin, fewer concerns, less makeup time, better results and not to forget the #selfcare are now crucial and pampering your skin is the only self-indulgence never frowned upon. So, from ethical to the escapist, these skincare ingredients are about to get trendy.

1. CBD Oil (Cannabidiol): Cannabis has always been the hot topic of controversy, but recently, it has paved its way into the realm of dermatology thanks to the benefits this controversial ingredient posses on the skin. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), cannabis consists of anti-inflammatory properties, and there is a potential that the tropical formulations with CBD oil might assist in reducing inflammation associated with certain skin conditions like acne, eczema and psoriasis. However, further research is still awaited, but one thing is certain that the products formulated with CBD oil will not create any type of ‘high’ because they lack in THC, the chemical accountable for the psychoactive impacts of marijuana. So, if you want to give products formulated with cannabis a try, always test a tiny area of skin with the formula first, if no reaction occurs, apply the product as directed.

2. Polyhydroxy Acids (PHAs): When talked about chemical skin exfoliators, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) tops the chart. But have you heard of polyhydroxy acids? If not then we are here to inform you that, they are a new group of hydroxy acids, commonly referred to as a new generation of AHAs and has been whirring around social-media and skincare communities, recently. Similar to AHAs and BHAs, these are chemical exfoliators that can help in swapping away the dead cells from the skin’s surface but are less likely to irritate the skin, resulting in even tone and radiant look. PHAs can be suitable for use post-procedure and also for sensitive skin types. It might also provide more moisturising and can aid towards a strengthen skin barrier capacity. Few of the most recognised PHAs are gluconolactone and lactobionic acid.

3. Retinol: Yes, yes, we know that retinol has been around forever. Though, it does not change the fact that people are still mesmerised by the anti-ageing benefits it holds. Being one of the most-desired ingredients for skin, its unbeatable track record speaks for itself, so do not be surprised if you see some of your favourite brands still formulating new products inspired by this powerful vitamin A derivative. The important point to note is due to the strong nature of retinol, it is quite crucial for you to build up your skin tolerance towards the ingredient. 4. Bakuchiol: There is no denying the fact that retinol is the multi-tasking superhero for skin, but it is also inevitable that this is a rather strong, concentrated and powerful ingredient. Though, there are steps that can curb the effects of sensitive skin types using retinol, a fairly new ingredient known as bakuchiol is being proclaimed as a more-refined retinol alternative. Fun fact. in reality, bakuchiol shares no structural similarity to retinol. Some clinical case studies have shown a significant correction in the appearance, wrinkles, pigmentation, resiliency and photodamage of the skin. The idea then is that bakuchiol can hold the massive potential to produce anti-ageing effects similar to that of retinol.

5. Hyaluronic Acid: Hydrated skin never goes out of the style, and they’re very few products that can assist you to achieve an intense level of moisturisation that hyaluronic acid can. So, for that reason, along with others, we do not envision hyaluronic acid going anyplace anytime soon. This powerhouse of hydration can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, plumping the skin with moisture, making it resemble softer, smoother and more youthful.

6. Petroleum Jelly: If there is one trending ingredient hidden in the plain sight, it is petroleum jelly. This household item is one that you have been accustomed to since childhood, and it has loads of advantages.
