More Familiar Than Exceptional

A sleek exercise in contemporary jewellery, the Link collection ultimately feels too cautious, relying on familiar forms and polished finishes instead of delivering a memorable design statement.

More Familiar Than Exceptional

The Link collection has a polished appearance, with its sculptural links and 18K gold construction giving it an undeniably refined finish. The clean silhouette also makes the necklace easy to style.

But beyond its attractive surface, the necklace feels surprisingly underwhelming, particularly for a luxury piece that is expected to offer distinctive design and lasting appeal.

The most obvious weakness is its lack of originality. Linked chains are hardly a new idea in jewellery, and this necklace does little to challenge or reinterpret the familiar concept. The sculptural links may be presented as a modern expression of connection, but the result remains visually predictable. There is no unexpected proportion, unusual construction or distinctive detail strong enough to make the design feel genuinely new.

Its minimalism also becomes a disadvantage. Clean lines and restrained detailing can look sophisticated, but here they leave the necklace with very little personality. Once the initial impression wears off, there is not much to discover. The design depends heavily on its polished gold surface to create impact, rather than offering intricate craftsmanship or an inventive visual element.

The links themselves are another concern. Their repetitive form makes the necklace feel somewhat monotonous, particularly when viewed as a complete piece. Instead of creating a sense of movement and rhythm, the repeated shapes can make the design appear mechanically assembled. The idea of connection is obvious, but the execution does not add much depth to it.

More Familiar Than Exceptional

The availability of white, yellow and rose gold also does little to solve the underlying issue. Different metal finishes provide variety, but they do not fundamentally change the design. Choosing another gold tone simply alters the colour of an already familiar silhouette rather than offering a genuinely different interpretation.

The promise of strength, fluidity and everyday wear is equally unconvincing. These qualities sound appealing in a product description, but they are not necessarily enough to elevate the necklace. Everyday versatility can actually make a luxury piece feel less special when there is no stronger design statement behind it. The necklace appears designed to fit easily into a wardrobe rather than create a memorable moment within one.

There is also a risk of trend dependency. Chain-inspired jewellery has become increasingly common across luxury fashion, and this necklace does not possess enough individuality to rise above that crowded category. What feels contemporary today could easily look ordinary once the popularity of oversized and sculptural chains declines.

Ultimately, the Link collection feels like a safe interpretation of a familiar jewellery trend. It is polished, wearable and well-finished, but those qualities cannot compensate for its lack of originality. Rather than redefining the classic chain, the necklace simply reproduces its most recognisable characteristics in a more expensive form.

For a luxury piece, that feels like a missed opportunity.
