Genesis
“Both my parents are architects and growing up, I would read their design books out of curiosity. I think I was naturally inclined to art and all things aesthetic. As I grew up I decided to pursue my passion and studied design at Petra Christian University in Surabaya, Indonesia. All this while it has been quite a natural progression,” says Kezia.

She further adds, “From a 1 person company, today we have grown into a full time office of over 20 creative minds from different backgrounds. Our projects portfolio has also grown from residential to luxury hotels and resorts. Some of more notable works include Vasa Hotel (Surabaya), Golden Tulip Holland Park Resort (Malang), Gran Melia Resort (Bali). We have also done high end offices and even a luxury sports car showrooms. Besides those regular projects, we have also extended our creative insight into art installations as well as a furniture line.”
Passion
When it comes to design, Kezia believes that, there are infinite possibilities to what one can create. What she finds amazing is that one can shape realities, moods of people and even affect people’s character and behavior through creating artistic spaces. She stands by the idea that her design will always evolve to encompass all aspects of design that transcends trends and styles.
According to her, the work of a designer is to translate dreams and imagination into something tangible be it environment or an art piece. Design also has the ability to convey messages to its audience. Kezia draws inspiration from an extremely broad range of subjects, such as her clients, art, local culture, philosophy, books, poems, conversations and even movies.
Ethos
“We believe strongly in pushing boundaries – from eclectic composition to daring colours to layered space, there’s a strong sense of curiosity that we’ve developed about spatial creations and how we can achieve something fresh through our design. Our design is distinguished with it’s live-able, balanced, and thoughtful designs. For those reasons, it’s very important for us to experiment with materials, and collaborate with independent artists and artisans and other diversely talented people,” says Kezia.
She explains, “Our edge is the ability to dissect what our client wants and marry it with our inspiration. As with our design philosophy, we eliminate what people normally do and think about why people don’t do what they don’t do then head for that direction. There are more things to discover along that way as opposed to getting caught up in the usual boxes as many designers do.So in many ways we reverse engineer the thinking process.”
Aesthetic
Being a non-conformist Kezia loathes abiding by the cookie-cutter approach. Unlike other design firms that try to maintain a certain style, her the Kezia Karin Studio tries its best to be unpredictable. In each of their projects, they strive to achieve different and distinct one of a kind styles and experiences while constantly and mindfully maintaining high quality standards. Her team gladly takes risks to present a strong point of view, a concept to begin the design process, crafting a unique and individual narrative concept for each project. From the big picture to the smallest details.
“We strive always to maintain the value of art in our aesthetic design. The benefit of art is that it is fluid and flexible. From complex demands to budget constraints, every project is a great opportunity for us to consider different approaches and to turn it into something of artistic value. There lies our value as designers. But not everyone can understand this. Additionally interior design is all about space and incorporating art installations are only natural to create or enhance the environment and experience that we want to achieve,” concludes Kezia.
