The ultimate photographers don’t take a photograph instead they make it. We’ve found one such photographer, Dimpy Bhalotia who by collaborating with Apple gave her best shots and won the hearts of many but particularly of the Italian Creative Director, Niccol Lapo Latini. The charming award-winning photographer, a specialist in the art of street photography became the photographer of the year in IPPAWARDS 2020. Not to forget, she was also noticed by Tim Cook. Flying Boys is now the most famous photograph. The gem who threw light on her skills, Niccol Lapo Latini said, It is usually said that there are two types of photographers: the good ones and the bad ones. I take the liberty of adding a third: photographers who have sensitivity, they are called artists. Dimpy belongs to this category.

Having worked in both the fields, in the fashion business and as a street photographer. What is the major difference and how does the perspective of the world change?
I worked in the fashion industry for a bit. I lived in an atmosphere of artistic taste, but I missed harnessing the Sun’s energy and that’s how I knew what was meant for me. That doesn’t mean I appreciate myself as a designer because I have great respect for that young lady who I was, but sometimes you have to start from the beginning when you start discovering yourself. I reinvigorated myself with the smell of the Sun that I knew and started photographing my freedom.
Another aspect of Naturalism and realism is what I found photographing on the street. Capturing life with moments as it is. Working with natural light energy, the Sun, with breathing humans on the planet, the reverberation of freezing moments has been a privileged phenomenon in my life.
You could be called a Silent Witness. You travel around the world unnoticed letting your art speak for yourself. One-shot can, in a certain way, change everything. Can a single shot change a career in your opinion or even a lifetime?
To me, my craft is a complete mastery of the mind over the material world. That’s the beauty of it. I can perceive things beyond what is considered normal perception. Street photography is a manifestation of many dimensions of life. When the vastness of all the dimensions manifests together a moment is created. That very moment is inevitable and irreplaceable. These moments hold the realism of life. And I strongly believe even a single moment photographed can be epoch-making.

Tell us about your most famous photograph Flying Boys. How was it born and did you have an idea about it being your ultimate success?
It took a lot of looking around the world and arranging my thoughts together to figure out what makes me happy. And all those traveling, experiences, impressions, and imprints in my mind created Flying Boys. This photograph completely describes me. Flying Boys is Freedom. I am Freedom. Success to me is to know who I am and I keep discovering so much more about myself, it keeps getting interesting.
What does it mean for you to be able to say that you are doing what you love for work and what does it mean for you to be able to travel the world freely without limits or obligations? How did you live, for this season, these two years of the pandemic?
I sit and think about things and turn things around. I am very sensitive to life. I sound dated but have you tasted the rain and walked under the sun consciously? I do! I love living my life under the Sun. So I go where there are fragments of light. It’s holotropic for me. All that I know about my life, I have learned it from life on the streets and nature. I found a deep sense of meaning in walking in the sunlight. Manifesting and transforming all the elements of the Earth and giving meaning to it is what only humans can do because we have consciousness. And I do it through photography. My craft is such that I can’t imagine it, it just unfolds in the present. And I live consciously in the present and my eyes are fixed to the world that no moment I want to miss. To me, street photography is harnessing the energies of nature and capturing it in a frame to the service of humankind. Hoping it’s an epoch-making experience in one’s existence. And this makes me happy. Very happy!

What is your favorite place – your happy place – where you know you are at home?
After exploring, there are so many places that uniquely impacted me. But the richness of the land and the healing properties that I have experienced in Bharat (India) are luminous.
India has given so much to your career as to your relationship with its culture and its people?
Exploring this land tremendously altered my perspective towards the whole existence. There is something so mystic that it changes the chemical index of your perspiration and heals it and it causes the whole immediate world to vibrate around you. I have experienced high vibration frequencies to the richly charged winds and different molecules of life very intimately here. It helps me a lot to maintain myself active in the body and mind. I have yet to experience something like this on any other part of this planet.

India has very enriching energy which has left an invigorating effect on me. Bharat has been instrumental in determining who I am and my journey.

The world has always been changing constantly, as a human being how much trust do you place in the future and people?
Seems like time has fallen asleep. I think people have to come around in their time and realize what has happened and why it’s happening. In this age of disposable, we are somewhere losing a sense of responsibility and freedom. There is a huge shift in the poles and the earth’s axis. It is indeed a concerning future, so much has changed and will continue to. Something that mankind has never imagined. We are living in an age of misinformation. Living life with consciousness is missing and Humans need to slow down a bit.
