“Marinate” Your Makeup

“Marinate” Your Makeup

This Month, We Are Paying A Homage To The 90s Grunge, Marinated Makeup Which Is All About Messy Bold Look. If You’re Looking For Gaining Popularity Through The Boldness And Freedom, This Makeup Trend Is A Must Try! Look Yourself!

It’s not the first-time beauty has borrowed buzzwords from the kitchen. Remember “baking,” a.k.a. topping concealer with a generous serving of powder, letting it sit (or “bake”) for a few minutes and then dusting off the excess? Well now, in the tail end of barbecue season, marinating is trending like anything.

In cooking terms, to marinate is to steep meat, fish or vegetables in a seasoned liquid prior to cooking with the goal of flavouring and tenderizing. In beauty terms, well, the definition isn’t quite as clear.

Some point to a return of the early aughts goth/punk/emo girl aesthetic. Picture eyes heavily rimmed in black liner, presumably applied the evening prior and left to “marinate” overnight, like jerk chicken. Luckily, there are ways to recreate the look without potentially clogging your pores. Here’s how to do it in six easy steps:

1. LUBE UP YOUR SKIN

LUBE UP YOUR SKIN

CHARLOTTE TILBURY, Magic Cream Face Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid, approx. Rs. 8,980

DIOR, Backstage Face & Body Foundation, approx.Rs. 3,580

ESTÉE LAUDER, Bronze Goddess All-Over Face & Body Gloss Liquid Highlighter, approx. Rs. 2,880

Embracing the mess also means embracing your skin’s imperfections. For this look, start off with a more breathable base. Lubricate the skin with moisturizer and a light layer of Face and Body Foundation—just where it’s needed. To get that glazed, sweaty look, tap your cheekbones with a glossy, shimmer-free highlighter, for a fresh finish on the skin.

2. FAKE FRECKLES TIL YOU MAKE IT

KEVYN AUCOIN, True Feather Brow Marker Gel Duo, approx. Rs. 3,060

CHANTECAILLE, Real Bronze Gel Powder Bronzer, approx. Rs. 7,370

TOM FORD, Brow Sculptor, approx. Rs. 5,030

Freckles—real or faux—are essential to give off that natural, sun-kissed skin look. For those of us that turn lobster-red in the sun, it’s much easier to just draw them on. First, prep your face for freckles with a rosy cream blush or a light dusting of bronzer on the apples of your cheeks and across the bridge of your nose. Then, lightly dot a freckle pen, as it’s made just for this, but an eyebrow pen also works well. Use it on and around the nose bridge and immediately tap them out for more freckles and a realistic finish.

3. LIVE IN YOUR LINER

ARMANI BEAUTY, Eye Tint Liquid Eyeshadow, approx. Rs. 3,240

SISLEY PARIS, So Intense Eyeliner, approx. Rs. 7,460

Unlike other eye makeup techniques, the marinated eye look doesn’t require that much precision or effort. It’s all about letting your makeup melt into your skin. Afterall, this is your moment to channel your inner character. The less it looks like you tried, the cooler it is. Apply a black gel eyeliner on the upper and lower waterlines and smudge the liner out with your fingers for a diffused, smokey effect. To add even more drama to the eyes, layer on a black cream or liquid eyeshadow into the lower lash line, and then blend it out to get that rougher, lived-in vibe.

4. AMP UP THE LASHES

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN, Les Yeux Noirs Lift Ultima Mascara,
approx. Rs. 4,940

Because this aesthetic is all about juxtaposing a more natural base will let the eyes really pop, artfully clumpy mascara is the lash look of choice. The goal is somewhere between I-just-woke-up-from-a-really-good-nap and I-just-headlined-a-sweaty-rock concert look. Try applying a generous coat of mascara, let it dry completely, and then build it up with a second layer. Holding the mascara wand vertically and applying a third coat onto the ends of your lashes delivers extra rocker-chic clumpiness.

5. BITE YOUR LIPS (OR AT LEAST MAKE IT LOOK THAT WAY)

DIOR, Rouge Dior Forever Liquid Transfer Proof Lipstick, approx. Rs. 4,040

CHANEL, Le Crayon Levres Longwear Lip Pencil, approx. Rs. 3,150

To get the signature bitten lip look, softly line the lip and buffing out the edges with a brush, then, topping it with a diffused lip colour, to the middle of the lips. The effect is: it’s 4 a.m. and your lipstick is almost faded away— but you’re left with your natural flush, in a subtle shade.

6. LET IT ALL MARINATE

LA MER, The Mist Facial Spray, approx. Rs. 7,630

Now, instead of sleeping in your makeup to get that smudgy, morning-after look, you can speed the process along with a heavy spritzing of a facial mist, for a dewy finish. The rest is up to you. Allow your makeup to marinate, whether it’s at an overcrowded nightclub or on the stage—it only looks better as the night goes on. Embrace the mess.
