This was supposed to be the amped-up iris Shalimar, and one would really have to use the imagination to detect the Shalimar genes in this caramel concoction. Where’s the iris, Delphine? This is just not what it was actually promised.
It’s not that this isn’t an appealing fragrance; but it just doesn’t smell much at all like Shalimar with extra iris. What it does smell like, is almost to a startling degree, a bougie old fashion plain glazed donuts. No offence to the glazed donuts, but this wasn’t supposed to be the Homer Simpson Shalimar.
As it dries down, it will smell a kind of lighter, lemonier Shalimar, but the caramelized sugar and vanilla are going to stay on skin. To sum up, no doubt, it’s pleasant and of high quality – no surprise there, it’s Guerlain! But, it has very little of the original Shalimar than the very sweet, very dessert-like vanilla. This combination of vanilla and iris may seem unattractive to some.
Being not an iris scent but a vanilla Shalimar, only lighter and smoother vanilla version. There are not the flowers or the powder, not the silk or the coolness. Instead, it’s orris: a little sweet, and in this case – even further sweetened. An oily and delicate orris.
However, the orris root note when combined with vanilla, it can remind you of whipped buttercream. Detecting more deeply, Shalimar Millésime Iris is a scent of fresh carrot cake with icing, gradually transforming into a very vanilla cheesecake, drizzled with caramel, and topped with a cream. We think this can surely excite all the foodies.
Thus, this good and sweet scent, can be too sweet if you are not much into gourmands. Moreover, it’s definitely likable, if you’re looking for sweetening up yourselves. As, this fragrance fulfils desire of smelling like a snack at all times.
