1. SELENA GOMEZ
Selena Gomez walked the red carpet wearing a colourful red ensemble. In honour of this year’s MTV VMAs, the singer and actress wore an Oscar de la Renta red floral thread work dress with a semi-sheer look. The dress was coordinated with strappy red sandals from Jimmy Choo. She accessorized her outfit with Pasquale Bruni jewellery, including earrings, rings and bracelets. The hemline of the dress was asymmetrical, producing a thigh-high slit. She wore her hair down and straight, parted in the middle and a monochromatic makeup look by artist Hung Vanngo using Rare Beauty. 2. CARDI B
Rap Queen Cardi B certainly kept the fashion mood alive with her own red-carpet ensemble. The star chose a sculptural armorlike gown that was made out of hundreds of silver hair clips. Who designed such an avant-garde creation? Turkish- British designer Dilara Findikoglu, who pasted many, many silver clips together in a cohesive pattern. It was actually covered in hundreds of silver hair clips, stacked and arranged in swirling and fanning patterns. (It was originally shown on Findikoglu’s fall 2023 runway as a mini dress; but Cardi’s was likely custom.) She continued the theme with a pair of black arm cuffs, also studded with hair clips, and further accessorized with glittery heels and a metallic manicure along with matching lace-up arm warmers. Afterall, who needs hair accessories when your dress is literally made of them? We love how Cardi B kept her beauty look simply, with sky-high lashes and a classic centre part.
3. SABRINA CARPENTER
Sabrina Carpenter definitely had a modern angelic aura in this custom Vera Wang look, which features a sparkly corseted bodice and a sheer white overlay. Sabrina came through the MTV Video Music Awards with her signature curtain bangs and a glowy makeup look that had blush as its main attraction. The makeup stayed put and pigmented throughout her performance of her hit songs “Feather” and “Nonsense.” Well, she rightly decided to go for a dreamy luminous glow with flushed angelic cheeks and fluffy lashes looking like a ‘Dreamy Angel’. She achieved the look with the most perfectly flushed cheeks on the carpet. And speaking of cherub cheeks, singer Sabrina Carpenter gave us major blush inspo with her rosy makeup look. For a dramatic eye, Gonzalez (makeup artist) popped on some faux lashes looking natural, and flared cat-eye shape made the eyes pop with nude lips. While her pout was sealed with a soft beige shade.
4. RITA ORA
Rita Ora brought fashion and flair to the red carpet of the 2023 VMAs, and you better believe she showed up on the red carpet looking incredible. Rita arrived in a black off-the-shoulder Rodarte gown, with her hair down her shoulders. Instead of her usual see-through looks, she decided to wear an uncharacteristically covered up dress—a black off the shoulder Rodarte gown with never-ending statement sleeves and an exaggerated train from Rodarte’s fall 2023 collection. Accessorizing it with the pair of sparkly silver towering lace-up platform boots (the tallest, maybe ever) complementing the edgy dress with silver. To finish the look, she let her hair hang loose in a sleek blowout. Beauty-wise, she adorned her tousled blonde beach waves with several black ribbons and shimmery tinsel. While her makeup centred on a shimmering smoky eye and a matte nude- pink lip, the dramatic sultry smoky eye, rosy cheeks, and glossy pink lips finished off her glam. But the honey-brown waves adorned with rows of miniature bows being a perfect cherry on the top.
5. NICKI MINAJ
Nicki Minaj returned to her Barbiecore roots at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. The rapper—who dubbed herself “Barbie” long before the doll took over the globe this year. The star has put her own romantic spin on lingerie dressing in a pale pink gown by Dolce & Gabbana, which featured a strapless satin bodysuit and a sheer lace mermaid skirt that fanned out into a circular train. A matching see-through veil with lace trim completed the look quite well. The rapper finished the monochromatic ensemble with floral-shaped earrings, a diamond tennis bracelet, and an array of diamond rings. Her opulent glam look included a sparkling eye look with pink shadow and sharp cat-eye liner, as well as a nude lip and extra-long bejewelled pink nails finishing off with a matching Barbiecore look composed of a bedazzled corset with crystal-covered sleeves, a flared light-pink skirt, and black platform boots with hot-pink laces.
