Star-Filled Met: Outrageous Fashion At Its Finest

This Year’s Gala Gave The Attendees A Wide Range Of Their Choices Because The Late Designer Cast Such A Long Shadow Over The Past Half-Century Of Fashion. Find Out Who Nailed The Red Carpet Flawlessly.

It’s about that time of the year again. The Met Gala 2023 theme pays tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld with designers and celebrities coming together from around the world at The Metropolitan Museum of Art to show off their most innovative designs, each year’s Met Gala is a once-in-a-lifetime, must-see event. The full title of the spring 2023 exhibition theme is ‘Karl
Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’.

The 2023 Met Gala saw celebrities paying tribute to the designer in numerous ways; some wore vintage designs from the man
himself, while others wore creations that were inspired by his aesthetic as rival fashion houses put their own spin on some of his most famous work. It was a red carpet filled with monochromatic looks–black and white ruled, while we also enjoyed plenty of pearls, a touch of tweed, and thousands upon thousands of crystal embellishments. Between all the looks, you won’t want to miss a thing, as we’ve got you covered.

1. GIGI HADID

GIGI HADID

Gigi Hadid is championing the naked dress trend at the 2023 Met Gala—but, with a moody twist. The supermodel stepped out wearing an edgy all-black and completely sheer dress, custom-made by Givenchy. The gown included transparent black fabric draped over one of her shoulders, extending out into a dramatically long train, plus a strapless bustier underneath. The see-through skirt featured hip cutouts and a ruched center. She accessorized with Lagos jewellery, including a pearl and diamond choker and diamond stud earrings, whereas her beauty look was no less considered. She called on her makeup artist, Patrick Ta, to create a pearlescent silvery-white eyeshadow look for the occasion. He even placed two teensy pearls under the center of Gigi’s eyes as a dainty accent. As for her platinum hair, Gigi’s hairstylist, Laura Polko, created waist-length mermaid waves and a half-up top knot to keep her face clear.

2. KENDALL JENNER

Jenner has been teasing a major fashion moment, wearing a sparkly black Marc Jacobs bodysuit dripping in sequins and little else. The statement piece featured dramatic diamond-embellished collars with extra-long floor-length sleeves with white quilted lining in the interior that trailed behind her like a split cape as she walked. Jenner dialed up the drama even more with her accessories. The model walked the carpet in a pair of sky-high lace-up platform boots, coordinating with her black bodysuit, and sheer Wolford tights. She completed her look with a high ponytail, and statement camellia earrings, which served as a nod to Chanel’s symbol and late designer Karl Lagerfeld. The supermodel achieved her glamorous look by using only drugstore products. Kendall’s makeup artist Mary Phillips worked by first prepping the star’s skin following up with her viral backward contouring technique, on the perimeters of the face and down the jawline as the contour under the foundation. Highlighting her under eyes and the center of the face, on top of the contour and highlight, she buffed the foundation into the skin. To add a touch of color to Kendall’s cheeks, Mary brushed on the brand’s Blush and drew faux freckles on her nose and cheek area with a gel liner. However, Kendall’s eyes were the star of the show, with Mary drawing a classic cat-eye with black liquid eyeliner and adding a chocolate shade to the lower lash line. The inspiration for Kendall’s makeup was pulled from mod ‘70s makeup with an emphasis on the eyes. Bold lashes complimenting the upper and lower lash lines with a classic winged liner.

3. SYDNEY SWEENEY

If Barbie went to the Met Gala, we can’t help but think this is what she would wear. The dazzling Miu Miu gown hugged
Sweeney’s curves in all the right places, and the mermaid silhouette was completed with blush tulle fabric and adorned with
gemstones, beads, and sequins from the top down. The Euphoria actress truly served classic and effortless glamor fit for a Barbie doll and flared out into a dreamy train. She matched the chiffon bow on her dress to the chiffon bow in her hair. For her hair, the star’s gorgeous blonde strands were given a voluminous blowout. Hair stylist Glen Oropeza gave the actress maximum volume. He amped up her ultra-glam look giving her a lift at the roots and effortlessly wispy ends. Sweeney also had
her makeup artist Melissa Hernandez prep her skin with Laneige products and use a full face of Armani Beauty to create her glowy airbrushed glam. Hernandez used the brand’s signature Luminous Silk Foundation for complexion, a hint of blush, and a custom blend of liquid eye tints to create what she called a “rosy-champagne” shade. A subtle, yet effective pink accent that pulled the entire look together.

4. ANNE HATHAWAY

Anne Hathaway looked charming as ever in an ivory Versace gown with an epic slit. Hathaway attended the gala in a dress that
combined the best of both designers’ signatures. It was meant to be a marriage between Versace and Chanel. Created in a gold-threaded white tweed, the gown hugged Hathaway’s body. Cutouts were held together by pearl and Medusa-adorned safety pins, creating an inherently Versace that mimicked the iconic safety pin gown. Camellias decorated the bust and a diamond with Bulgari choker wrapped around her neck. Fingerless gloves, as well as a matching motorcycle jacket then
completed the look. According to Versace, it took over 450 hours and 15 meters of fabric to make the dress. Orlanda Pita
kept all the drama for the back. Anne wore her voluminous hair long and teased. If you look closely, the style features a Chanel-inspired camellia flower crafted out of her.

In her hair, Hathaway’s hairstylist, Orlando Pita, placed a camellia from a ‘90s Versace show. She walked down the white carpet with a voluminous half-up bouffant. Hair cascaded down her back and she left face- framing pieces loose for adding elegance. The elegant hairstyle was completed with face-framing loose waves and a sultry, smokey eye with winged liner. The clean skin and the glossy nude lip brought the entire look together.
