Hi Rahart, Welcome to L’Officiel, tell us about your thought process when picking acting as your career – who was your inspiration?

To be honest, becoming an actor and choosing this career path was more of a slow realization rather than one singular moment or epiphany. That slow realization was a build of projects along the way that I had been a part of over the last ten years; each time saying to myself: “Wow, I really am an actor! I think I’m actually good enough at this to keep trying and keep doing this”. Choosing a career to pursue is a massive part of someone’s life journey and acting wasn’t something I necessarily wrote down one day and brainstormed on how to become one day. I just went for it because I really enjoyed being a part of something bigger than myself and then being able to come home and tell my family about all the cool people I worked with, the fun things I got to do, the places I got to visit and experience too. It also helped that acting feels very natural to me, being able to step into someone else’s shoes or create a character to tell a story seems like a fitting extension of my own story at this time in my life. I guess those little moments of realization along the way just felt right and they still do at this point in my life and that’s why I still choose to pursue it. Many people have inspired me to become the actor I am today. My family and friends were the ones who initially inspired me. Making them proud has always been a huge point of reference in my life, so that thought drives a lot of my inspiration.

You have been in this industry for quite some time now, what’s the one thing that you wished that someone would’ve told you when you were starting your career?

I don’t feel any type of way about the advice I didn’t receive early on in my career. But having been in the industry for a decade now, there are some things that I wish I had paid a little more attention to along the way. In hindsight, I feel in my bones that the passion/inspiration for acting can and should be found from within, via life experiences as opposed to analysing the way other people are doing it around you. It’s a deeply nuanced and consuming endeavour to dedicate oneself to being creative in any way, shape or form. What I mean by finding passion from within via life experiences is seeing the excitement, joy and fulfilment of other art forms and walks of life (no matter what that is: it could be dance, painting, cooking, building, design, writing etc.) as an invitation to explore and learn. That way you have a deeper understanding and empathy for the work that you do & those around you and being able to always see life as an opportunity for learning makes the whole process of chasing that dream endlessly fun.

How did you feel when you got selected as a lead actor in ‘Gotham Knights’? Do you resonate with your character of Brody in the series?

I couldn’t believe it. I was over the moon and I still am. I felt this huge wave of excitement knowing that I’d be In the DC universe getting to explore such a cool storyline on television the way we are right now. Brody March comes from a world so far separated from my own upbringing that getting into his mind became an exercise of analysing how someone could still be a compassionate confident person in the face of such a demanding, judgmental, and almost heartless upbringing that he had in Gotham; being the son of a ruthless billionaire always being critiqued and measured to an unattainable scale of worthiness.

Of all the projects that you have worked on, which one is your favourite and why?

It’s really hard to pick a favourite. Even though I enjoyed all the projects I’ve been a part of, there are a few that stick out in my mind for many reasons. I loved filming Pacific Rim: Uprising because as a cast, we were all able to travel and experience other cultures together for months on end and those are genuine life experiences that I’ll always cherish. That project specifically was a turning point in my career of seeing what’s possible because I’d never been a part of something that big before.

If you were given a chance to work with someone from Hollywood, who would it be and why?

There are so many people I’d love to work with in the future, so I’ll name a few. The Safdie brothers are so amazingly talented and masters of their crafts in both acting and directing; the way they explore drama through story and filming techniques is just art to me and I’d love to work with them one day. I’d also love to act alongside Shah Rukh Khan in something that’s timeless & meaningful; he’s a legend all over the world because his talent for performing transcends cultural borderlines, and that’s something I’d like to emulate one day. I’d also like to work with Hugh Jackman one day too. Man, wouldn’t that be cool? Not only is he the definition of Australian acting royalty, but he also just seems like such a great guy!

Are you working on any future projects that your admirers don’t know about? Please shed some light on some of those.

To be honest I miss my family and friends! I’ve been away from home filming for so long that I think it’s time I spend more time with them, maybe do some writing of my own and explore some projects that I’ve been wanting to develop outside my world of acting. I can’t shed light on them now, so you’ll just have to wait and see!

We are delighted to have you and so are our readers, what message do you have for the people who aspire to become like you?

Thank you for having me, this was a fun experience. Always have empathy and compassion for those around you. Listen, find beauty in the little things in life. Explore and be curious. Eat new foods. Don’t be afraid of looking dumb when trying new things. Try those new things. Tell your family you love them & remember to follow what makes you happy.
