They belonged to two different worlds, and yet fate brought them together. As they grow and evolve with each other, both personally and professionally. Upasana Kamineni Konidela, who belongs to the powerful sister squad of the Apollo Hospitals and Ram Charan, superstar of Telugu cinema may be cheese and chalk, but their love and respect for each other makes them super spouses. Excerpts from the interview:
Upasana, you have been engaged in the wellness and health sector. What can be done to make it more accessible?
Everyone would expect me to say that it should be more affordable. But, I’ve seen that people don’t value things that come cheap or free. They want quality and results, and they are willing to pay for it. I feel we need to change our mindset. We should shift our focus on wellness not illness. For example, an insurance policy should cover gym membership too. Every corporate that demands their employees to spend long hours on the desk must pay for their workout as well.
Ram, how can a powerful position be used to advocate betterment and equality?
Nothing comes easy in life, even if you are a superstar or a superstar’s son. You have to work even harder to make your mark. Equality comes if you are confident of the work you do. Respect yourself and respect others.
How did the two of you met?
We met through common friends when both of us were just starting our careers. We decided to get married the moment we knew we respect each other a lot. We complement each other and felt a connection.
Do you discuss your professional lives with each other?
Both of us have a clear understanding that we don’t get into each other’s spaces. We do discuss best practices that can help enhance our careers but nothing more. Work doesn’t come home with us.
What did you learn from each other?
I have learnt patience from Ram and he has learnt how to be happy-go-lucky.
What annoys you about the other?
A lot of things annoy us about each other but working through them is the beauty of a marriage.
