From representing Mercedes-Benz at the Canadian Auto Show in 2018, showcasing her acting prowess in NBC’s Heroes Reborn in 2015, to winning the Director’s Award for Miss Swimsuit USA International in 2019, Kalista Itakura is fearless when it comes to going out of her way to stand tall by her passion towards her art. She shares her views on inclusivity, feminism, fashion, and plans for the future, in an exclusive interview. Edited excerpts follow.
What inspired you to take up modelling as a career? Who has been your mentor all through in this competitive industry?
I have been told during various shoots that I look very different depending on my makeup and other effects; which makes it hard to identify exactly where I’m from. I’ve not had a mentor yet, though I am inspired by Naomi Campbell for my runway walks.
