1. TAG HEUER CARRERA CHRONOGRAPH GOLD

1. TAG HEUER CARRERA<br />
CHRONOGRAPH GOLD

In the golden age of Formula 1 racing in the early ’70s, Jack Heuer, the fourth-generation leader of Tag Heuer, started gifting gold watches to race car drivers, in a move that created a strong link between the watch brand and motorsports. Now, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Carrera, Tag Heuer has released the Carrera Chronograph in 18-karat yellow gold. This re edition of the 1158 CHN like previous 2023 anniversary models manage to embody the feeling of the Carrera’s daring-do past, while gently modernising it for the 21st century.

Like all this year’s new Carreras, the new gold model – simply known as a Carrera Chronograph – comes in a 39mm diameter case, with the brand’s calibre TH20-00 automatic chronograph movement and features the new ‘glassbox’ domed sapphire crystal design. This one drives further home the racing theme with a (vert comfortable) perforated black leather strap. All in all, a fitting tribute to the golden age of motor racing and a fitting end to an incredible anniversary year for the Carrera.

2. BREITLING TOP TIME B21 FORD MUSTANG

Breitling has enhanced its precision chronographs since the 1940s, notably with high complications. Recently, they introduced a tourbillon to the Top Time Classic Cars Collection, which pays homage to iconic vehicle like the Ford Mustang. This revised line has been featuring frequent brand collaborations, exquisite finishing, and visual nods to some of the most beloved American automobiles of all time.

The first-generation Ford Mustang, produced from 1964 to 1974, became the car of choice for hitting the road in 1960s America. This living legend is still in production, but car buffs know that the coolest of all were those very first models that captured the freewheeling spirit of the sixties. The Top Time B21 Ford Mustang features the colours of its classic-car counterpart as well as a perforated leather racing strap, speed-measuring tachymeter scale, and contrasting “squircle” (not quite square, not quite round) subdials that give the feel of vintage dashboard gauges. With its surrounding bronze case and matching dial hardware, the Breitling Top Time B21 Ford Mustang’s vertically brushed classically luxe through matching and complementary hues.

3. FERRAGAMO CURVE WATCH

High fives all around for Ferragamo, who have recently entered the watch game with this fun curve piece. It’s nice to see a different shape in the mix, and the combination of black and gold is altogether typical fashion. Taking cues from his Fall/ Winter 2023 garments, this unisex time-teller resides inside a 23 x 46 mm oval-shaped case featuring an “F”-embossed crown. Employing two-hand movement, the Swiss-made design houses a name-branded sunray dial without visible numbers.

The dial sits snugly over a double-tour calf leather strap that wraps around the wrist like a refined bracelet, available in red or black, with an Ardillon Ferragamo buckle. Reflecting the aesthetic vision of creative director Maximilian Davis through the timepiece that enhances and elevates the house’s distinctive balance between classic inspiration and modern edge, thanks to its infallible elegance. This creation unites artisanal luxury and innovation, infusing the energy and essence of contemporaneity in the value of timeless elegance. Apart from its futuristic design, it does not lose its identity and remains a specific and intriguing product that will not fail to impress with its simplicity.

4. CARTIER TANK AMÉRICAINE WATCH

Avid watch collectors will be having an absolute field day about the latest Cartier Tank Américaine – fancy French for doing a new take on an icon. Seeking inspiration from the Tank Cintrée, the new Tank Américaine is available in a curved case and sits on the patented adjustable strap with a folding buckle. Equipped with the new 1899 MC movement, this model comes in three versions and 11 styles with 9 featuring quartz movements.

The Tank Américaine is one of the brand’s hallmark icons with its curved case and the first adjustable strap adapted to the famous folding buckle, for which Cartier filed a patent over 70 years ago, in 1910. For the 2023 redesign of the collection, the Maison’s design studio has enhanced the original design of the watch, emphasizing its curved shape with more refined and sportier lines. Moreover, the purity of the watch’s form has been accentuated by the classic yet legible style of the dial and the seamless integration of the bran cards into the extension of the strap. The most noticeable changes come in terms of the size as the new models are thinner and slimmer than the existing line-up, making the watch even more wearable. Calling it a formal dress watch, or highlighting its elegance and simplicity undermines how cool a piece it is.
