Hi Kristin. First of all, we’re thrilled to have you featured on the Digital Cover story of L’Officiel India wearing the luxurious Steen slippers. Could you share with us your experience wearing these travel essentials and how they added to your overall look and comfort during the shoot?

I absolutely loved wearing the Steen slippers for the L’Officiel India shoot! During the shoot, I found the slippers to be the perfect finishing touch to my outfit. They effortlessly elevated the entire look, adding a touch of understated luxury. The minimalist-chic design perfectly complemented the overall aesthetic of the shoot, allowing me to showcase both style and comfort.

Tell us what inspired you to start your own jewellery business, Uncommon James, and how did you navigate the challenges of starting a new business?

I had a fire within me to prove I knew what I was doing when it came to the branding world. I always say, “I don’t have a BA; I didn’t go to college; but I do have passion, dedication, and a strong work ethic, and those things can’t be taught. With those traits, anything is possible.

The challenges of building a brand were definitely hard at times – I was faking it till made it. I felt like I was underwater for a few years; it will test you in every way possible. But if you can push through that period, it’s beautiful on the other side.

You have written several best-selling books, including True Roots and True Comfort. What motivated you to start writing, and what advice would you give to aspiring writers?

I love cooking and I’m definitely a foodie, but I’m also a health nut. I wanted to show people that they can still enjoy delicious food, even if it’s good for them. I’ve also always loved writing, so writing all four of my books myself was a no-brainer. Advice to aspiring writers is to let your voice shine through; that’s what makes you, you.

Your latest venture is a podcast with your former Laguna Beach co-star Stephen Colletti called Back to the Beach with Kristin and Stephen. Can you tell us a bit about the podcast and what have been some of the highlights for you to revisit with Stephen?

We’ve gone back and rewatched every episode from seasons 1 and 2, which I haven’t seen since it aired. We break it all down – what was real, what wasn’t. It has been such a highlight of my career. Hashing it out with my former high school boyfriend has been fun, hilarious, therapeutic, and left the most positive taste in my mouth with these shows. I’ve loved every second of that experience.

You have had a successful career as a television personality, fashion designer, and author. What do you think has been the key to your success, and what advice would you give to young women who aspire to follow in your footsteps?

I honestly think it’s my authenticity. People know I’ve always just been me. In a saturated world, I think being yourself is the most important thing; that’s the only thing that will make you stand out.

You have been a part of several popular reality television shows, including Laguna Beach and The Hills. Looking back at your experiences, what were some of the most memorable moments for you, and what did you learn from being on these shows?

I love having high school prom and graduation on camera. It was amazing going back and watching those episodes recently. I got to relive those moments all over again. Being on TV at such a young age made me grow up and mature earlier than I probably would have. It made me really look in the mirror and figure out who I was.

You have been in the public eye for many years now. How do you deal with criticism and negative comments, and what advice would you give to others who struggle with this?

I’ve learned over the years not to listen to the noise, and mostly that’s by not reading it. I typically don’t even read my Instagram comments. But I also know now that other people’s opinions about me actually have nothing to do with me. Once you learn that, it is a moment of freedom.

Your latest cookbook, Truly Simple, was just released. Can you tell us a bit about the book and what readers can expect?

This cookbook was such a passion project; I loved being in my kitchen for months creating these recipes. These are the recipes I make running around on the weekdays balancing three kids’ schedules. All of these recipes are quick and easy. I’m not a chef by any means, I’m just a mom who loves to cook. So, if I can make these, anyone can. And most of the recipes have a healthy take on them since I think food is medicine.

What’s next for you in terms of your career and personal goals?

That’s a good question. I’ve gotten to a place of just letting life unfold before me. And that’s not to say I don’t have goals, but the past few years have been way laxer for me in that sense. So, to be honest, I don’t know. And I’m perfectly okay with that. I’ll forever have Uncommon James but I’m really just loving being a mom first and foremost right now. I’ve gotten to a really great place of work-life balance, and it’s much better now, which I love.

Lastly, what are two facts about Kristin that fans wouldn’t know or expect?

I’m a homebody. I think people have this idea that my life is glamorous and all over the place, but it’s really not. I’m happiest being home in my sweatpants with my kids. And I can be very shy when I first meet people. Until I’m comfortable, I’m pretty quiet.
