“Being a model has always been my childhood dream. When I was 4-5 years old, my father always used to insist me to watch fashion shows or beauty contests on television.”
Hi Maria! Welcome to L’Officiel India, when did you come to know that you wanted to become a model, and who was your inspiration behind it?
Being a model has always been my childhood dream. When I was 4-5 years old, my father always used to insist me to watch fashion shows or beauty contests on television. At that moment, when I was growing up, I used to think that one day my father will be watching me on the television.
It is often said that Difficult Roads Often Lead to Beautiful Destinations. What were the difficult roads you go through as a model?
To be very honest, sometimes it is difficult to stay disciplined, work out every day, not eat from restaurants and stick strictly to a diet. Especially as a model, when I lived in NY, LA, and even now in Dubai, I’ve been invited to many parties and dinners. There are a lot of temptations, but you just need to prioritise yourself, and one has to refuse a lot of pleasures, I would say. Either US or Dubai, I came alone, which is not at all easy. Starting your life from the very beginning, meeting new people and making new friends. But it’s a good experience and makes one stronger.
“I am currently working on my fashion brand for beachwear, and with god’s grace, it will be ready soon. And hopefully, people will be hearing more and more about DJ Maria.”
You are a style junkie. What are some of your favourite fashion brands?
My most favourite brand will always be Dior. But I also really like Chanel.
If you were given a chance to work with someone from Hollywood, who would it be and why?
If I would be given a chance to work with somebody from Hollywood, it would be my friend Brett Ratner. I think he is the best director in Hollywood, and I adore him so much. He is an amazing person and superbly talented, he has also directed Rush Hour.
You look absolutely gorgeous at any given time, what is your secret to being so fit?
Actually, I work out a lot. When I started going to the gym, I became a gym addict. I can work out even twice a day. I do weights, cardio, yoga, and I also love dancing. Earlier, I also used to play tennis every day and also went once even to a surfing camp. Once, I also spend my winter in a Muay Thai camp in Thailand with professional fighters, training for two hours early morning and two hours in the evening. I am a very energetic person, and I always keep moving all the time by cycling and jogging, that’s why I even prefer walking instead of driving. I really like keto food, and I haven’t eaten sugar for two years, so whenever I feel like I am gaining weight, I cut my carbs. I love healthy food since my childhood, as my mother taught me to maintain such habits. My favourite food is salad, as I love all greens, celery juice and matcha tea.

If not modelling, what would you be doing right now?
My main job right now is real estate. I have a huge passion for it, because buildings in Dubai are insanely beautiful, and some of them literally look like artwork. Currently, I am also pursuing a DJ course, as I really want to become a DJ because I have immense love for music, and my biggest passion is performing on stage.
Put some light on the projects that you are currently working on.
I am currently working on my fashion brand for beachwear, and with god’s grace, it will be ready soon. And hopefully, people will be hearing more and more about DJ Maria.
We were delighted to have you. What advice would you like to give to people who aspire to be like you?
My advice to all the readers is Dream big and never give up. If you have a good heart and you work hard, God will give you everything you desire for. But sometimes, people think that manifesting doesn’t work. Actually, I believe our mistake is that we attract what we are and not only what we want. So always be good, and never be jealous, God sees everything, and karma is real. I have never been jealous of anybody in my life, and watching the success stories of others has always inspired me to achieve even bigger goals. Lastly, one should always be ready for tests, as the universe will test you a lot, especially when you are closer to achieving something you really want.
