Get Fashionably High On Realms of Zhou Tianai

Interview

Aesthetics is what a photograph craves for when getting clicked. Specifically in the fashion industry – it’s quite hard to portray the message in your picture. As hard as it is for the model to include the charm – Zhou Tianai does the portrayal neat and clean.

You’re a Chinese model currently residing in New York City. How did you get discovered in the industry and how do you see New York City as your next destination?

I have been in the U.S. for six years since high school life and I am currently majoring in the fashion business at LIM College which is located in New York City. During the pandemic I couldn’t go back to school in the U.S., I started modelling in Shanghai, China. Then I returned to New York City again, which is a fancy place full of opportunities and challenges. And I believe it’s a valuable place which can support me to absorb a variety of information related to the fashion industry. It is a city that I sincerely yearn for.

You have hit the hottest runways of some big global names. What has the journey been like?

It’s all been a very memorable working experience for me. The people who work backstage at shows or shoots are experienced and well-known designers, photographers, stylists, show directors, and make-up artists. Working with them was extremely valuable and led me on the way to improving myself and becoming a professional model in the not-too-distant future.

How would you describe your style?

I am more after natural beauty. My own usual style and the shooting style that I like are also this way. I like to shoot outside the studio, enjoy nature, no fixed pose, no heavy makeup, and to show my own beauty as much as possible. Because I believe that natural beauty and a style without too much decoration can show my characteristics.

What is your go-to work look and why?

In my daily dressing style, there are more solid colours and low-saturation colours, such as black, beige, grey, and brown, and I prefer good, slim cuts and comfortable materials. Because I think this style makes me feel cosy and makes the others feel accessible. When I meet or go to casting with brands, I also adjust my outfit slightly according to the brand’s style, but my own style will not be covered up, it is still obvious.

Who is the designer you dream of working with next and why?

Max Mara. I paid attention to almost every show of Max Mara. I love the cut and texture of the clothes. The models in the show are also very elegantly set off by the clothes.

Besides modelling, do you have other passions?

I love travelling around the world, especially the beach. It makes me relaxed.

I also keep reading in my spare time, novels and books related to my major are all my choices.

Any fitness tips to maintain a fit body and mental health?

I go to the gym at least twice a week. It’s a really good way to keep body shape and healthy. I also keep reading in my spare time, novels and books related to my major are all my choices. I think reading will make people quiet and learn to think independently.

What advice would you give young girls who want to be in the industry?

Keep your passion, remember the originality, and never give up. The same is true for other positions in the fashion industry, only a constant initial heart can support you to go far during a long term of work.

What is your aspiration for the future?

I hope I can have a long career and keep my passion in the fashion industry.
