He talks to the children and adorns their hands with their favourite gifts.

24th December plays an important role here as it’s the day of Christmas dinner and everyone usually dresses the best, the streets would be full of people saying Vesel V¡noce meaning Merry Christmas.

Unlike everywhere else in the world, children open their gifts on Christmas Eve only. Generally, when the Baby Jesus or leaves the gift under the Christmas tree, a bell rings and all the kids open their gift then and there only.

Talking about the food, one of the most piquant elements of Christmas, the locals of Czech enjoy fish soup generally made from carps, a native fish from Europe. Alongside carp soup, potato salad, fried carps are also served in the Christmass eve dinner.
