Burst of Flowers

jewellery

Hereâs a look at RoseDior Haute jewellery collection that pays homage to Christian Diors enchantment with flowers.

It is a known fact that french designer, Christian Dior was mesmerised by gardens and flowers that became a motif for his ethereal creations and accentuated his couturier persona. From time to time, the Italian fashion house, Dior, has kept intact its floral legacy to pay tribute to its founder. From its Spring Summer Haute Couture collection of 1957 to the SS20 collection and more recent SS21 Hommes collection, flowers have been a characteristic feature of the brand. This time, Dior has yet again bloomed its Haute jewellery collection with flowers under the RoseDior collection. It presents a bouquet of bejewelled flowers created by Victoire de Castellane. The collection is medley of glittering gems like pink sapphires, paraiba tourmaline, emeralds, garnets, tanzanite, diamonds and much more.

Some of the statement pieces include a lagoon blue Paraiba tourmaline gem that is placed on a Y shaped necklace, a Madagascar sapphire placed on a white gold stem, sparking bracelets resembling botanical shapes, and a pink sapphire watch with emerald cut diamond dewdrop. However, the dial of the watch is comparatively smaller than the pink sapphire flower-studded on it making it serve as a piece of jewellery rather than being functional as a watch. Another shining piece in the collection includes a white gold and diamond bracelet sculpted very finely and shaped into natural elements like leaves and flowers. Explaining the process of creation of one of its pieces, Dior mentioned on its Instagram handle that a gouache sketch provides the starting point for the creation which is then carved into a wax prototype. Next, the process begins in white gold with the thorny stem, delicate leaves and petal outlines set sparking with quantities of tiny pav diamonds, while the flower itself is given a striking blue-green coloration in limpid Paraba tourmalines and intense tsavorite garnets.

While the collection pays homage to Christian Diors enchantment with flowers, the timing of launching this collection is worth a thought. It’s launched when most gala public events are being held virtually and official gatherings are limited giving us less scope to get decked up with haute jewellery of this kind. Moreover, many brands like Louis Vuitton, Cartier and Tiffany & Co. are shifting to minimalistic jewellery launches in post-pandemic era as seen in their latest collections like Volt, Clash De Cartier, Hardwear, harbingering age of basics over haute.
